An introduction
Hello and welcome to my blog. After completing the Great Glen Ultra in July 2018, I wrote a few words about running my first ultra. Since then I have enjoyed writing about my races and reading other blogs. Reading about other races and the experience it gives runners can be awesome. It’s like reading an in depth running magazine, but it’s totally free. It gives me inspiration for other races and adventures too.
Background
Prior to 2016, I was lazy and slightly overweight. I started running as a way to get fit and to exercise the dog. I started off with parkrun, before progression with a 10k, half marathon and then a marathon. My first ultramarathon was on January 1st 2018 where I went out with a group of friends and ran 27 miles. I enjoy hiking and 2019 is my year bagging the Munros.
Races
My races reports can be found here. It’s no secret that I love a race medal and a new PB, but I’m careful about which events I book. I tend to enter local events so I don’t have to travel and anything which doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. The majority of my future races will be ultras as that’s what I find the most enjoyable.
Aim
I’m never going to be an athlete, I just don’t have the commitment. I would ideally love to complete the longer ultras (100 mile +), with a view to travelling abroad to enter the likes of UTMB and Spartathlon. I also want to see as much landscape as possible so I find running is the best way to do this.
